Spinach Dishes to Comfort the Soul
Three Favorites Plus a Bonus
When you say “comfort food”, some might think chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, macaroni & cheese, or something else “mamma used to cook”. I’m here to tell you there are three spinach dishes served on the island that would make any mamma proud.
Manicotti di Spinaci at Sapori
Sapori Ristorante mixes spinach, ricotta cheese and no telling what other goodness then stuffs it into a pasta shell. You can choose marinara, cream, or ragu on top. This night, I ordered the ragu, which is a meat sauce. It’s served with a salad and fresh baked, still warm, bread. If you want wine with dinner, bring your own. They will give you a big wine glass but do not serve alcohol.
Spinach Enchiladas at Tortuga's
Spinach, cheese, and cream. There’s just something about that combination that makes me happy. And, it’s served in a happy festive place, Tortuga’s Mexican Kitchen. If you can convince your dinning companion to order Tacos al Carbon, try swapping one-for-one and do a combo, as shown above.

Mediterranean Pizza at Gypsy Joynt
If comfort food can be healthy, this is my pick. Gypsy Joynt’s Mediterranean Pizza has spinach, artichoke, tomato, red pepper spread, pine nuts, garlic and feta on top of mozzarella and marinara. Somehow this band of Gypsies always seem to have the ripest reddest tomatoes on the island. That’s it in all of it’s glory in the pic above. Behind it is my dining companions Cosmic Clover wrap, also with spinach. He swears by it. As if the bonus Cosmic Clover wrap was not enough, I have a few more bonuses for you.
